Blog #7
As we reach the midpoint of the semester, we reflect on course websites and their efficiency in the classroom. Before taking this class, I was never exposed to the benefits that having a website could provide. The ability to keep students and parents updated on classroom events and material allows for a dependable method of communication. I personally would definitely invest in constructing a website for my classroom in the future. This is because it allows for a common place that all parties can resort to when needing to locate answers. When looking at our blogs, one can see that the set-up was nearly effortless. Despite having to learn yourself how to construct a course website, the benefits outweigh this time and should not be viewed as a trouble. Although I do believe that they are important, I also believe that it is equally important to put out a physical copy of a newsletter to those who do not have access to the internet. Catering to both groups allows for a successful classroom environment that keeps educators, students, and parents in the know.
Previously mentioned in other blogs, we live in a technologically-dependent age. I can most definitely see myself using technology to help myself accomplish things in the professional field. Because I am a psychology major, we are heavily reliant on technology when it comes to conducting research. I intend on continuing research after undergrad and am able to use the knowledge I gain from this class to apply to my research. I primarily see myself using Blogger (https://www.blogger.com/about/) to keep my colleagues, friends, and family up-to-date on research I am partaking in.
I unfortunately haven't had the chance to finish the web evaluation. I struggled a bit with the assignment, however I did have a chance to look over it and the read the rubric. I like how the evaluation allows for you to check the credibility of a source. I learned how to "zip" documents which was so cool! This is extremely important in today's world. I believe I can use this in my future career by applying it to my student's dependency on websites that they will use to write original documents.

Hey Erika! I too would invest my time in making a course website. It is just so awesome how it could keep every parent connected somehow. I really enjoyed reading your post. Can't wait to read more!
ReplyDeleteGreat post Erika! I like how you mentioned in your second paragraph that we live in a very technology-dependent age. I think this is a really important reason why teachers should do their best to keep up with technological advances so that we can make our lives easier and be knowledgeable enough to teach these technologies to our students as well. It also helps with communication with our students and other teachers.
ReplyDeleteHi, Erika
ReplyDeleteBlogger is definitely helpful to accomplish your professional responsibilities more efficiently and effectively. Another tool I would suggest is ResearchGate. On ResearchGate, you could keep yourself up-to-date on the latest research conducted in your field.
